5 signs that you need a hormone check
Published on 1 October 2026 · Dr. Medical Clinic & Lab
Hormones are our body’s chemical messengers – and when they fall out of balance, the whole body is affected. Here are the signs of hormonal imbalance that show it is time for a hormone check.
5 signs that call for a hormone check
1. Chronic fatigue
Even though you sleep enough, you constantly feel exhausted. Fatigue may be linked to the thyroid, cortisol levels, or anemia and vitamin deficiencies.
2. Hair loss or skin changes
Your skin may become drier, or pimples may appear for no obvious reason. Hair loss is often linked to the thyroid or sex hormones.
3. Menstrual cycle disorders
Irregular periods, missed periods or severe pain are warning signs that should be assessed by a gynecologist.
4. Unexplained weight gain
Especially around the abdomen, even without changes in diet. It may be linked to the thyroid, insulin or cortisol.
5. Anxiety and mood changes
Sudden mood swings, irritability or low mood can also have a hormonal cause.
Which tests can help?
Depending on your symptoms, the doctor may recommend thyroid tests (TSH, FT3, FT4), sex hormones (FSH, LH, estradiol, progesterone, testosterone), prolactin, cortisol, blood glucose and insulin, as well as vitamins D and B12. Results should always be interpreted by a doctor, together with your symptoms.
What should you do?
If you experience one or more of these symptoms, it is time for a hormone check. At Dr. Medical Clinic & Lab we offer hormone panels for women and men, combined with a medical consultation. Read more under Hormone Check and Endocrinology in Tirana.
