Anemia prevention
Published on 23 March 2023 · Dr. Medical Clinic & Lab
Diet can be helpful in preventing and fighting some types of anemia.
It is necessary to balance the intake of iron-rich foods and to increase the intake of vitamin C to improve the absorption of iron from those sources. Below you will find a list of foods that help relieve and prevent anemia:
Mushrooms
Mushrooms are a tasty food that can be eaten in many different ways. They contain riboflavin, niacin, iron and beta-glucans, substances that support the immune system. Depending on the type of mushroom eaten, they can provide up to 8 mg of iron.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes contain two important compounds for fighting anemia: vitamin C and lycopene. Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron more easily, and lycopene is good for keeping the body in good condition and preventing unnecessary fatigue. These vegetables are also rich in beta-carotene and vitamin E.
Eggs
Eggs are one of the foods with the highest protein content, but they are also packed with vitamins and antioxidants that help your body fight anemia. One large egg contains 1 mg of iron.
Walnuts
Walnuts are another excellent source of iron, and they taste great at the same time.
Pomegranate
Pomegranate contains vitamin C, iron, vitamins A and E, as well as fiber and potassium. Pomegranate helps reduce anemia symptoms such as weakness, dizziness and hearing loss.
