Cardiac arrhythmias – diagnosis and treatment in Tirana
Cardiac arrhythmias are disorders of the heart rhythm. At Dr. Medical Clinic & Lab in Tirana, our cardiologists diagnose and treat them with the appropriate tests.
What are arrhythmias?
Normally the heart beats regularly. With arrhythmias, the heart may beat too fast, too slowly or irregularly. Some arrhythmias are harmless, while others, such as atrial fibrillation, require treatment.
Symptoms
- palpitations or a feeling that the heart “skips”
- very fast or very slow heartbeats
- dizziness, fatigue or loss of consciousness
- shortness of breath or chest discomfort
How cardiac arrhythmias are diagnosed
Diagnosis starts with a cardiology consultation and an ECG. When the arrhythmia comes and goes, a 24-hour Holter (heart rhythm) monitor is recommended. An echocardiogram and laboratory tests (e.g. thyroid and electrolytes) help find the cause.
Treatment
Treatment depends on the type of arrhythmia and on your condition. It may include lifestyle changes, rhythm medications and, in some cases, referral for specialized procedures. The cardiologist explains the possible options and follows you up over time.
