A Holter rhythm monitor is a small device connected to a few electrodes on the chest that records every heartbeat for 24 hours. This detects rhythm disorders that do not show up during a short ECG.

24-hour blood pressure monitor

A blood pressure Holter (ABPM) is a cuff on the arm that automatically measures blood pressure every few minutes, day and night. It helps diagnose high blood pressure and evaluate treatment.

When is it recommended?

• irregular or fast heartbeats
• dizziness or fainting without a clear cause
• high blood pressure or different readings at home and at the clinic
• monitoring the effect of medicines for heart rhythm or blood pressure

How it works

The device is fitted at the clinic and you return to your usual activities. During the 24 hours, avoid showering and note the times of symptoms or main activities. The next day you return the device and the cardiologist analyzes the recording.
